The arrival of Geely in France marks a new step in the European expansion of Chinese carmakers. After acquiring Volvo in 2010, Geely Holding now launches its main brand Geely Auto in France, with two competitive SUVs and a distribution network built around established partners such as Como in the Paris region.

Geely Auto, the Chinese giant behind Volvo and Lotus

Geely Auto is part of Geely Holding, one of the largest automotive groups in the world, headquartered in Hangzhou, China. The group controls a portfolio of brands well known to European audiences: Volvo Cars (acquired in 2010), Lotus, Polestar and the Smart brand in partnership with Mercedes-Benz. This industrial heritage clearly differentiates Geely from other more recent Chinese carmakers such as BYD or Omoda.

The European experience gained through Volvo translates into the standards of quality, safety and service announced by the brand for its French launch. Geely vehicles benefit from an extended eight-year or 200,000-kilometre warranty, placing them above usual market standards.

Geely’s official arrival in France in 2026

The official commercial launch of Geely in France was announced in late April 2026. First deliveries are scheduled in 2026, with an initial target of 6,000 vehicles sold in the first year. The carmaker has structured its logistics around a distribution centre based in northern France, which will supply the entire French network.

Geely Auto France has set out an ambitious roadmap:

  • 70 sales outlets operational by end of 2026
  • 170 dealerships in 2028
  • More than 200 sales outlets in 2030
  • 5% market share in France targeted by 2030
  • Long-term volume target: about 80,000 vehicles per year

This gradual ramp-up aims to establish the brand sustainably against established French and European carmakers.

Geely E5 and Starray EM-i: the first two models

Geely chose to launch in France with two C-segment SUVs, directly targeting the heart of the European market.

The Geely E5 features a 100 kW electric motor with fast charging from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes at up to 160 kW. Three trims are available: Pro, Pro+ and Max. The Starray EM-i has a 29.8 kWh battery for its all-electric mode, complemented by a thermal range extender. Both SUVs are eligible for long-term leasing through CA Auto Bank, with monthly payments starting at 366 euros over 48 months and 40,000 kilometres.

The Geely distribution network in France

The distribution of Geely in France is based on partnerships with five established distribution groups, providing progressive nationwide coverage:

  • Como: eight dealerships in the Paris region (Pontoise, Velizy, Colombes, Fontenay-sous-Bois, Paris 12, Stains, Paris 17, Port Marly)
  • Baldassari: Provence and Cote d’Azur (Marseille, Toulon, Frejus)
  • Auto Real Group: South-West (Bordeaux, Toulouse, Perpignan)
  • Elypse Autos: Grand Est region (Mulhouse, Belfort, Epinal)
  • Select Auto: La Rochelle

The choice of Como for the Paris region is significant: this group already distributes Mercedes-Benz and has solid expertise in supporting customers on financing solutions, whether lease-to-own or long-term leasing. Buyers interested in a Geely in the Paris region will therefore benefit from the same service quality as for premium European brands. Geely’s ambitions on the French market

Beyond the launch, Geely France announced a dense product roadmap for the years ahead. The brand plans the arrival of an electric sedan called EX2, positioned under the 25,000 euro mark. This car would complete the range and open Geely up to a wider audience sensitive to entry-level electric pricing.

By the end of 2027, the carmaker intends to cover 90% of French market segments with around ten models, ranging from the electric city car to the family hybrid SUV. This rapid coverage strategy aims to capitalise on launch momentum and establish the brand across all segments before Chinese competition (MG, BYD, Omoda, Jaecoo, Denza) gains further ground.

Geely against the competition in France

The arrival context for Geely in France is not the most favourable. As the French ecological bonus is closed to vehicles imported from outside the European Union, Geely SUVs do not benefit from this purchase incentive, unlike their European-built rivals. To go further on the rules applicable to vehicles in circulation, see our article on the Crit’Air sticker.

However, several strengths position the brand favourably:

  • Competitive pricing against established brands in the C-SUV segment
  • 8-year / 200,000 km warranty, among the longest on the market
  • Solid distribution network backed by experienced groups
  • Technical heritage shared with Volvo (platforms, electrification)

Initial reviews from the specialist press generally praise the equipment-to-price ratio of both models. For buyers interested in precise pricing and financing options, see our dedicated dossier on Geely France prices which details the full price grids.
